CALLS ED HARASSMENT A POLITICAL VENDETTA

Bengal Chief
Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday slammed
the BJP Government for using the central agencies to settle
political scores. Addressing a gathering
of businessmen Banerjee said how the Centre was using the Enforcement
Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation to tame
down its political opponents.
"Sometimes
some people are being harassed... Though I
have not taken a cup of tea from anyone in my life they are harassing me… even
my family is being harassed ... Even if you purchase a cup and dish or a window
or some furniture they will send ED to investigate
… this is clearly a politics of vendetta," Banerjee said alleging how her
family members were being raided of late.
The Chief Minister's hard-hitting statements came
within weeks of an ED raid on the premises
of Leaps and Bounds, a company of which her
nephew and Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has been a
director. Already a former senior official of the same company is presently in
jail for his alleged connections with a cash-for-job scam.
Speaking about the alleged political vendetta, Banerjee asked the business- men
not to be worried.
"Do not
worry because you still have the courts that still take judicious decisions... if
you are harassed then please go to court," Banerjee said adding political
revenge would continue. "This trend will continue nonstop till this
political vendetta is over,” Chief Minister said. A number of senior
politicians including ministers, MLAs and top government functionaries including a sitting vice chancellor
have landed in jail in connection with recruitment scams, cattle smuggling. Very recently the Calcutta High
Court has also ordered investigation into municipal services recruitment scam
following which the ED has sent notices to a number of municipalities to
explain their mode of appointments since 2014.
Leveling counter
allegations of political vendetta Bengal BJP leader and MP Dilip Ghosh
said the Chief Minister herself had practiced political vendetta on the
opposition. "Hundreds of our workers have perished
and many have fled the State due to the political persecution that her party has practiced
..... and if she talks about harassment then one must say the Bengal
businessmen are more harassed by TMC goons
than anyone else ... the businessmen are fed up
with protection money (Tola Baji) that has
to be given to TMC goons," he said.
