Chief Minister M.K. Stalin regretted that the Union government had not
announced the release
of any funds for the state, reeling under the impact of two
floods, from the National Disaster Relief Fund, forcing the government to expend Rs 1500
crore from its exchequer to carry out relief operations. Speaking to media after concluding his
inspection of the flood affected southern districts, the Chief Minister
announced relief of Rs 6,000, as per the family ration card, for people in the
places that suffered
heavy damages in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts.
People living in the regions that were not damaged badly by the
floods and those in the districts of Kanyakumari and Tenkasi would receive a solatium of Rs 1000,
he said and announced an increase in the compensation paid for
crop loss, death of cattle and damage to boats and fishing gear.
