TWO LAKH FISH FINGERLINGS TO BE RELEASED IN STREAMS

The department of fisheries has launched a scheme to promote inland fisheries in the Nilgiris by launching therelease of fish fingerlings in the streams and other aquatic environments in the hills.

Nilgiris collector M. Aruna recently launched the schemebeing implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna for helpinglocal fishermen. She released common carp fish species fingerlings in the Sandynallah reservoir.

The fingerlings were also released in the streams and reservoirs in and around Pykara, T.R.Bazaar and Thalaikundha streams.

Fisheries department sources said that two lakh fish fingerlings will be released in different aquatic mediums in the Nilgiris. In the first phase, 50,000 commoncarp fish fingerlings, which can survive in the hill weather conditions, are being released in different freshwater aquatic medium across the Nilgiris.
