RAIN BATTERS HYDERABAD, NORMAL LIFE THROWN OUT OF GEAR
Only 187 out of 1,100 complaints on rain fury have been addressed
SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT HYDERABAD
Grievances related to inundations, power cuts, tree falls and other emergencies poured in a day after the heavy cloudburst that pounded Hyderabad for a good two-and-a-half hours on Monday.
More than 1,100 complaints were received via three
channels, 'Dial 100', Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) emergency
call centre, and the mobile app, out of which the corporation could address only 187 by Tuesday evening. A total of 612
complaints were lodged on Monday, and 498 on Tuesday since 6 a.m.
The majority of the complaints pertained to water logging and inundation of colonies. While
officials did not divulge
information
about total points of inundation, it is learnt that a total of 13,509 families
from 106 localities across the city were identified as vulnerable in case of emergencies.
A total of 105 lakes out of the total 185 in GHMC purview are overflowing, while 55 lakes are 75 percent
full. Hussain Sagar is filled to the brim,
with a recorded water level of 513.58 feet against the full tank level of
513.41 feet. Officials have claimed that there is no inundation of colonies due
to overflow of lakes. However, water logging has been recorded in Hasan Nagar
of Bahadurpura, Shaikpet, Nampally, Begum Bazar, and Narayanguda.
Due to excessive inflows in Ramanthapur Peddacheruvu, 50 huts were
inundated and the residents had to be evacuated.
Five apartment complexes and 50 houses too were inundated.
According to official information, a total of 85 trees
were uprooted.
As many as 140 monsoon emergency teams and other personnel have been deployed to carry out relief and repair works, the Telangana government said. Three persons were killed in rain-related incidents in the city on Monday.
