Union home minister Amit Shah asserted on Monday that allegations of corruption of even 25 paise had never surfaced against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his
political career spanning 23 years till date.
The BJP heavyweight made the remark
while drawing a
comparison between Mr Modi
and the Trinamul Congress leaders in West Bengal and Congress leaders in
neighbouring Jharkhand.
Mr Shah was addressing a Lok Sabha campaign rally at Bardhaman- Durgapur parliamentary constituency in support of BJP candidate
Dilip Ghosh after leading a road- show at Krishnanagar in Nadia in the
morning.
He said: "Rs 50 crore in cash were found at the
house of a Bengal minister. In Jharkhand, Rs 350 crore in cash were recovered from the house of a Congress MP. Last night, Rs 30
crore were seized from a minister's house there also."
Mr Shah added: "Shouldn't those who looted the money of the poor in Bengal be put behind bars? Narendra Modi has 23 years of serving as chief minister and PM. But there has been no allegation of corruption of even 25 paise against him."
