CONGRESS CRIES FOUL, BLAMES EVM FOR HARYANA DEBACLE
'Can't Accept Verdict, Will Move EC'
TIMES NEWS NETWORK
New Delhi: In its post-results
reaction, Congress said
the party's performance in Haryana was totally unexpected and the party cannot
accept the verdict as there were serious complaints about the integrity of the counting process and functioning of EVMs in
several constituencies. Alleging a "conspiracy", Congress has asserted
that that it would take
up the matter with
the Election Commission.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in a post on X
wrote, "After speaking to our workers on the ground, getting complete information and checking the facts,
the party will give a detailed response."
At the AICC headquarters in Delhi, Congress general
secretary Jairam Ramesh said that "democracy has lost and establishment has won." Ramesh said the results in Haryana
are "totally unexpected, completely surprising and counter-intuitive".
"There are serious questions about the instruments
of the system, namely the EVMS and also the extraordinary pressure on local administration officials. It is a
double engine pressure of the state govt and the Centre," he said.
Asserting that the results were questionable, Ramesh said Congress had been shown losing even
in those seats, where there was no scope of its candidates losing. He also said
the party will also
introspect the results and
a committee will also be formed.
AICC media and publicity department head Pawan Khera said
that complaints had been received from places like Hisar, Mahendragarh and
Panipat pertaining to complaints of possible manipulations of EVMS.
Khera said, some of the candidates referred to some EVMS
having 99% battery strength even after many rounds of the counting and the
results from all such machines went
against Congress.
Whereas, he added, those machines, whose battery strength was normal, between
60 to 70%, showed Congress candidates to be winning.
